What we're reading - January

Last month, we found all of the Waldo's with Turner and we worked our way through all of Lauren's Look and Find books to the point of memorization.

This month, I decided to focus on the kids favorites.

When things get a little crazy around here, I can always count on books by Karen Katz to get Lauren's attention.

Karen Katz is known for her lift-a-flap books about babies. Her books always keep Lauren interested and I enjoy them as well. We own several, but the one that's getting the most attention right now is Ten Tiny Tickles. The book is about waking baby for the day by giving her tickles on her head, arms, belly, etc. As Lauren and I go from page to page of baby tickles, I will tickle Lauren along with the book. She looks forward to it and sometimes Turner will sit in and participate too. One thing my 5-year old loves is to be tickled!

The most recent Karen Katz book I have ordered is Princess Baby Night Night. I'm sure if it's anything like the others, Lauren is going to love it.

For Turner, he enjoys looking through his Avengers Look & Find book but recently he's been gifted a subscription to Highlights for Kids. This has made an amazing present because 1. He gets it in the mail. What kid doesn't get excited to get their own mail? and 2. It is an entire magazine focused on entertaining children his age and it features things from children.

I was fortunate enough to receive Highlights for Kids when I was a child. I used to spend many hours looking through them. Now, I get to do it all over again with my son. Turner will spend an hour or so looking through his Highlights magazine so we have to go through it in sections every night before bedtime. If we didn't, we would be up all night! When we are finished with a magazine, it gets shelved with his books so he can look through it again at another time. I suspect we'll be subscribing to Highlights for a very long time.
